Stake’s latest influencer ad campaign with Puneet Superstar and Poonam Pandey sparks controversy

Stake has launched a new advertisement in India for promoting its online betting platform through influencers like Puneet Superstar, Poonam Pandey, and Deepak Kalal. This advertisement is very quickly getting so much attention, not because of its weird storyline but also because of the timing-it appears soon after the government crackdown on the gambling promotions by influencers.

This video appears to be like a sitcom. It starts within the house of Varshney pretending to be giving predictions about cricket matches, having Poonam Pandey as his wife onscreen. Coming in asking hua loan is Puneet Superstar, next comes a twist with Deepak Kalal and the bet on Stake. The gambling aspect is subtly but surely at the center of it all.

What makes this advertisement particularly spicy, however, is that it was released within months of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting having come out with a very stern advisory to the influencers regarding promoting offshore betting sites. The Central Consumer Protection Authority had also earlier warned celebrities and public figures of the potential legal implications of promoting such services.

Unlike Stake's other marketing in India, which used casual social media posts from celebrities like Ravi Shastri, Karan Aujla, and Raftaar, this is entirely scripted advertising content. Interestingly, the ad hasn't been put up on Stake's official platforms, but rather spread through the personal accounts of a handful of cast.
