On April 17, World Public Transport Day, Yatri, the Official Mumbai Local Train App, rolled out its city-wide campaign, ‘#SkipTheTraffic #SwitchToPublic’.
The starting point is something most Mumbaikars already know. The city isn’t short on public transport. What’s missing, more often than not, is the comfort of using it without second-guessing every step.
That’s where Yatri places itself.
The campaign looks at public transport as the more practical everyday choice. One that helps avoid traffic, cuts down the daily commute stress, and makes getting around a little easier. It doesn’t try to over-explain this. The idea is familiar; it just brings it back into focus.
There’s also a larger point running alongside. Moving away from private vehicles, even occasionally, can ease congestion, reduce individual carbon footprint, and contribute to a cleaner city overall.
Reeva Sakaria, Co-Founder, Yatri, said the campaign uses World Public Transport Day as a way to nudge people into rethinking their daily commute. Not only to avoid traffic, but to make a choice that works better for the city as well. When public transport starts to feel more seamless, she added, choosing it becomes instinctive.
The ‘#SkipTheTraffic #SwitchToPublic’ campaign stays close to that idea, small, everyday decisions that can gradually change how a city moves.
